Snow Storm 2014

Looking outside at the missing tree swing during a snow storm

I took this picture in memory of last year’s blizzard. We had another huge snow story this February, and I wanted to illustrate how things can change over a year. Last year, we had this beautiful focal point in our yard and this year it is gone. The view is still just as amazing, but it is also different. The tree being cut down mirrors the changes in my family’s life: our daughter is going to college, our son is going to be in high school, and I have finally started putting my pictures on a website and on Etsy. Lots of change and growth. I will miss that tree, just as I will miss and cherish past memories, but I am also excited for what the future holds.

Snow Storm 2013

Snow Storm_2060

This is a picture from one of last year’s blizzards. I took this snapshot with my iPhone, not realizing how meaningful this picture would be to us. Last May, we had to take down the tree. It was split right down the middle and could not be saved. It was painful to say goodbye to such a beautiful tree which had become a constant in our lives. The tree was a focal point and a foreground to the river behind it, framing many of the pictures that I have taken over the years. I will miss seeing my kids on the swing, enjoying nature. Cutting down was a symbol of change in my life.
